Bali TripTravel diary

Seven days in Bali.

Everything speaks bali of its beautiful stunning landscapes, rich cultures and just how relaxed it is there. However no one talks about how you might encounter a live cockroach hiding under your burger, as I angrily demanded a remake with the cheap travel organizer refusing, I realized how this trip to bali is gonna be anything but predictable.

Day 1 - Arriving bali and making our own offering

01

Day 1

Arrival shock

Upon landing in this interestingly shaped airport, before even getting to see the outer world, I've first noticed my luggage's drink handle has been ripped off, though I've received no compensation as it's deemed as wear and tear by the airline. However, this did not lower my excitement for the unravelling bali.

Day 1

Long ride to the roof

As we then withstood van commute time of more than 3 hours, arriving in the hotel, finally making it to dinner at the roof, where we made our own offerings, learning the craft, however this is also the beginning of the... let's just say, subpar food we've endured in bali which is the exact same throughout the whole journey. Maybe due to the immense amount of food me and James - who came with me on the CAS trip - need, or simply the lack of food, we stayed at the roof and ordered more food meanwhile chit chatting.

Day 2 - Rafting and attempts to visit templates and zip lines

01

Day 2

Rafting

Today is one of the two top experiences I anticipated from this trip - rafting, even if we're not used to the extremely early morning wake up calls, we quickly got ready and dressed up for the whitewater rafting. Although it's not my first time rafting, the advertised and from what I've heard stunning views still drove my adrenaline. And it's true, I was not disappointed, the views were breathtaking, so was the process, as the ferocious waves made it incredibly difficult to operate the boat with us drifting to the coast constantly. Overall that was a thrilling journey.

Day 2

Rain and temples

We're also supposed visit multiple temples today, however, due to the immense rain (which we did feel during the rafting, though significantly less).

However me and a few still had to use the bathroom, which showed me how wild bali's rain can be during a rainy season as the umbrella given to me is worn and even leaks water.

Anyhow, the rain's taken a break and we've visited the next temple we're scheduled to visit.

Mountain finish

We then went to a beautiful mountain range where we went on zip lines, massive swings and just generally phenomenal view, with coffee/tea chops on the mountain, concluding the day.

Day 3

Into the tribe

This might've been the most outstanding/unexpected experience of this whole trip, as we've waken up to a remote tribe. The first thing they asked us to do is to remove our shoos, my reaction was initially hesitant but has changed quickly as I'm getting more down to the earth, leaving the city behind and embracing nature. Blending into the tribe with the rest of us, learning the local culture, material art, drinking their 'holly' water and most unexpectedly, wrestling in the mud.

You think that's it? After getting cooked in handmade, mud sauna, we're showering in their handmade showering cubicles with bamboos and leaves, which offered minimal privacy, as if that wasn't bad enough, the water supplied was so limited, it was only barely dripping through the bamboo pipes, which led to a significant increase in the time took during so, especially when I've got nowhere to put my personal belongings while trying to remove all the mud.

Day 3

Hill and village

Free time is what follows, where me and James decided to go on an adventure up the hill behind the village, where we've found more similar views to the mountain range, and got more time to really feel, and completely immerse ourselves in nature.

Not long after, we continued to explore the village, finding more animals, their local styled architecture and design.

We left there for dinner, not before taking photos with the people we've met.

Chapter 04

Day 4 - Cycling

01

Day 4

Banjar run

Cycling by it's self might not be that interesting, however, cycling in another nation, not to mention the culture significance shown in nearby structure and local terrain. Today we went on a journey cycling to Banjar village, it was a bizarre and enjoyable experience where there are people falling into the fields, however passing people and speeding from last to first place was fun.

Day 4

Cabin and chocolate

We then finished in a wooden cabin in the nature, where we were again required to take our shoes off in order to enter. In such a cozy cabin, we were served their own coconut milk, which is also where we first got a different lunch, an enjoyable one...

Our afternoon was also filled with even more food, specifically, desert. We explored how are chocolates made and molded our own chocolate.

Day 4

Live set

This night is one of the most memorable nights of the trip as we've sat in a restaurant with a couple performing live, and through donations I was able to ask them to play some of the most iconic songs we've enjoyed, accompanied by a tasty dinner.

Day 5 - Balinese cooking and surfing

01

Day 5

Balinese cooking

Our food design skills were also put to test as today we're learning Balinese cooking, I've gotta say, the food was incredible, perhaps due to our own involvement, or the food, the technique, or both.

Day 5

Surf session

Today's also our first day of surfing here, though not my first time surfing. However, the environment is completely different from my previous experience, plus I'm rusty as I didn't surf recently adding difficulty to the sport I thought I mastered. Nevertheless, it was a fun experience after all.

03

Day 5

Dinner disaster

The worst nightmare of visiting an island belonging to a developing country had come true... A lively cockroach was uncovered when I tried to eat my burger at dinner. I was frightened and immediately disgusted as you'd expect, and demanded it to be remade, however what you aren't gonna expect is that the travel organization's leader on the trip straight out denied my request and told me to just deal with it and that cockroach are ubiquitous, its not a big deal, basically, take it or leave it. This event really did leave an impression for me on the organization. Left with no options I tried to separate most of the parts that the cockroach have been to and ate the ~40% remaining.

All that aside, it was a great day and we were ahead of schedule, earning ourself some night shopping time, concluding the day.

Day 6

Reset

With yesterday's horror, entering the last day until going back, we've woke up early today to yoga class, giving me some peace of mind and a break from yesterday's. Then heading back to yesterday's surfing, except today we've got the stunning napalm sky promised.

Today we're obviously improving and getting better at surfing, however it's the last day of surfing, hence we've got a picture with all the coaches.

Day 6

Waiting for sunset

An eco project also took place today however it was not as entertaining or helpful. After said project, we headed back to the beach we served to observe purely the magnificent and stunning firestorm napalm sky at sunset. We were shopping nearby meanwhile waiting for the sunset.

Then it comes the sunset, the tide rises and beautiful memories are made.

Day 7Stand-up paddle boarding, final lunch, airport

Surfing and going back home

Chapter 07

Day 7 - Surfing and going back home

01

Day 7

Morning on the water

The last day of Bali cannot start without stand-up paddle boarding, something I've never done before, we boarded for the whole morning. Although it was pretty tiring, contrary to popular belief, although both a water sport, this was completely a different experience compared to surfing, the motions, everything was different.

02

Day 7

Final lunch

The food here weren't incredible, however today's lunch must've been the worst one as I followed James's selection from yesterday, not expecting him to choose a vegetarian meal, even though I am certain he is trying to prank me, explaining how vegetables are the food that the locals are best at making, I could only endure it. I'm not opposed to vegetables by themselves however the combination of garlic and mint is unordinary and it did not suit me well, interesting meal nevertheless.
